It’s been a tough few months, but there’s been some wonderful musical highlights too.
My health has been bad the last three months or so and that’s been restricting what I can do. So it’s been a while since I was last out busking. That’s going to change today though as I head out to Stowmarket to busk for the first time in ages. It may sound strange but I’m quite nervous, however I’m sure that once I’m set up and in the swing of things I’l enjoy it as much as I always do. After all, it’s a beautiful sunny day here in Suffolk.
I’ve been using some of the time that my health has confined me to home to get some writing done. I tend to be good at coming up with tunes and ideas but not so good at the crafting of a song into a finished article. Therefore I’ve had a bunch of half finished songs hanging around for a while. I took the opportunity presented by being virtually house-bound to finally finish some of these songs. I don't mind telling you all that I’m very excited about them.
Having given some thought as to what to do with these songs, I’ve also been dreaming of/planning for some future music projects. So hopefully I’ll be recording some new music before the end of the year. Good times!
I had to cancel one show, in Leeds, due to my poor health but otherwise I’ve been keeping up with my gigs. Even though it often meant days of recovery afterwards. I have to say a huge thank you to my wife Anna and to my band, Jon, Fern, Sam and Oli for carrying me through live shows and giving me such excellent support in my music making. Thanks guys!
My band and I were fortunate enough to perform on The SoapBox stage at Folk East this year and it was out-of-this-world fantastic. Amy Wragg and her SoapBox team do a wonderful job creating a wonderful vibe for this stage. I loved every moment of it and discovered even more amazing local musicians and poets. I’m constantly amazed by how much talent there is out there. I’ll hopefully be writing more about some of the acts I’ve discovered in future blog posts.
In other news, I’m also branching out into London, trying to get more gigs in our capital. So if you’re London based then keep an eye on my Facebook page etc for news of upcoming shows.
See you out there!
